Wednesday’s Child

Helen

Wednesday erupted through the door and threw her bag onto the floor and for good measure gave it a kick. A high pitched squeak sounded as the bag slid across the floor. As it came to a stop the myseryjord’s head woefully emerged.

The employment agency had no idea referring a Woe to perform at a Joyful’s reunion. She, Wednesday Woe, was expected to perform tricks for a bunch of laughing hyenas that was the Joyful family. She was unparalleled at drawing down spiritlessness and despondency. She wrung every drop out of melancholy. Angels wept when she danced the languor.

That stupid woman at the agency dared to tell her that she could not be choosy, that she was an entertainer and that any entertainer worth their pittance could turn their skills to entertaining any family from the Dominions. Failure to do so would result in a reduction in her pittance. She had twenty four hours to come up with an appropriate entertainment programme.

Wednesday entered her personal shrine; she needed to take advice from her patron goddess Oizys Algos her myseryjord scuttled in behind her. Performing a full obeisance she offered her tears to her goddess. Humiliation was a pathway to consolidate woe; but through the Joyful’s, that just burned in her heart. Sinking into a meditative melancholy, she opened her mind and heart to Oizys. Her goddess languidly drifted into her mind’s eye and poured into her waiting mind the perfect programme.

Wednesday arrived on her name day at the Joyful’s Carnival. She entered the stage and took her place silently. Alone in the spotlight she stood. Her pool of stillness and silence garnered the curiosity of the rambunctious crowd of Joyfuls. Silence spread as more and more eyes turned to her. From Joyful's arts she parodied their greatest works; till laughter became tears and she wrung agony from the state of hysteria she brought her audience. When she ended the Joyfuls were gasping for air as her artistry brought them to a state of collapse.

The next morning she arrived at the employment agency, marched in and slapped down her completion of satisfaction, looked into the eyes of the employment broker and said “For a pittance, I am an entertainer”.
