I entered my room and immediately felt the loss. There was a gap in the flow of the room where something was missing. My eyes swept around the room cataloguing each item, on the surface it appeared that everything I had was still in my small room. The feeling niggled at my consciousness attempting to focus my attention on the missing item. I gently closed the door and stepped further into the room. It wsn’t a big space ten steps by ten steps in both direction and the bed took up a large portion of the space. I closed my eyes attempting to see where the gap was, my head turned on my neck like a divining rod. The loss appeared to be in the corner by my table. I moved over to the table I could see my book all seven of them, mortar and pestle, bottles of herbs and tinctures and my small burner. As I stood by the table the loss seem to pulse, the empty space expanding.

I moved my outstretched hand across the table feeling for the missing item. My hand came to a halt over the clustered bottles of tinctures. Leaning forward I picked them up and moved them aside. Yes, one was missing it was not a tincture I had made, rather one I had purchased at the market two days previously. Shimmering Pearl Essence, I had purchased it to work into my Thousand Island Dragon Call. I needed the Dragon Call for the deal I had agreed to with Te Largo. He would get the Dragon Call once he had released my brother from the Ager Drop.

The Ager Drop was a barren island penitentiary where rebels and dissidents were incarcerated in an old volcanic caldera which was the only portion of the island above sea level. Te Largo was going to get his men off the island and with the promise of the Thousand Island Dragon Call he would also get out my brother Tiamon out. Without the Shimmering Pearl I would not be able to complete the Dragon Call. The essence was essential to the binding of the call to draw the dragon to caller and keep it in thrall.

My mind raced, trying to figure out who entered my locked room and stole the essence. I needed to see backward in time to find out who had stolen from me. I settled onto my bed in a cross legged pose and dropped into a trance. From my throat rose a thrumming vibration. The sound spiralled out into the room; curling, circling, turning, twisting, twining back and down. As the vibration of the hum filled the room I opened my eyes and saw the timeline. It began as I left the room early this morning; door closed behind me, my pet Olinguito, Coscos came through the window played with his fruit and the settled under the bed for a nap. There was a period of emptiness when nothing happened. Then the door opened again and Te Largo entered his moved like a dancer around the room looking at everything when he got to the bottles he tilted each bottle looking at the labels. Then he picked up the Shimmering Pearl Essence, looked closely at the label and pocketed it. Then he left the room.

I came out of my trance. Te Largo had attempted to double cross me he was not going to help Tiamon. I leapt to my feet and crossed to the table, quickly I put together a spell potion to compel. Te Largo would keep his word and get Tiamon off Ager Drop and once that was done I would keep my word and created the Thousand Island Dragon Call. Any self respecting witch knows that without the bond of your word, your soul become untethered from your body, your word is the weight that hold the soul in your flesh. There is a pirate I know who now needs to learn this lesson.
