Philosophical Musings on Love

Helen

Today I read a quote from Maya Angelou “First best is falling in love. Second best is being in love. Least best is falling out of love. But any of it is better than never having been in love.

I think this quote was the impetus for the SHE that came to me this evening “Despite the Disappointments of Life SHE Never Lost Heart.” It got me thinking about love. Earlier this week I created “SHE is Passion” and in between the two I created “The Accursed” one of my fallen angels. All of them are related to love in some way.

Humans are one of the world’s expression love, and humans are made to love.

Whether it is romantic love Eros; or companionship, fondness friendship and enjoyment described as Phileo; or family and loyalty Storge; or Agape, love for the greater world and all living beings, an unconditional love.

What over-rides the expression of love is the concept of being “in love” and in our time the focus of being “in love” seems to be on sexual love, the pairing off of people into couples, whether those couples are heterosexual or homosexual. Fulfilment is seen in finding your “other half” as if without that one you will never be fulfilled.

I am not part of a couple, in my earlier years I often had to justify the choice to be single but every day I find ways to express love, to open my heart to find joy and beauty in my world because I love, not any particular person but rather a love of the world, personified by me as our Mother. And this love from the world is expressed to me in the spirits I share my life with the cats, birds, fish and bees in my little portion of the world.

Love to me is the fullness that infuses your heart that you then shine forth to others.
