This month’s avatar was Medusa. I wondered what I would find contemplating on the monstrous gorgon with eyes that turned men to stone and writhing snakes for hair. From a beautiful, mortal woman, taken by Posidon desecrating Athena’s temple. Medusa was punished despite her inability to control the events of her life.

Medusa wasn’t monstrous, that title belonged to the men who put their lust and desire first. After being isolated and ostracised, men came to see if they could overcome her. When she was finally slain it was because Perseus was assisted by Athena.
Pregnant with Posidon’s children, Chrysaor – a warrior and Pegasus the winged horse, born from her neck when her head was chopped off, she generated strength and beauty

Medusa was resurrected through time as a symbol for women of power and resilience. A symbol of strength and defiance of women who refuse to be silenced or oppressed.
Medusa give to us the symbolism that from death arises life.
