Let go of the old you if you want to be the new you - KushandWisdom

This has been something I have had to work on throughout my life. When I was younger I had some issues about being in control. When I started something I had to finish it, this related to both work and other things I did. Sometime this requirement to complete things I had undertaken was to my detriment as I persevered with things I didn’t necessarily enjoy. The learning and practice of letting go has been a long journey and it is something I can easily fall back into if I don’t remain aware.

I choose to arrange things to be in control but I am able now to let go if it is not in my interests to continue. Many activities I undertook helped me to learn how to let go; mindfulness and living in the now were pillars of my learning.

When you are focused on your action in this moment, the need to control the action is removed. Within the progression of time you have done everything you can by being focused in the moment. Focusing your full attention on what you are doing completes the moment. There is only now so the need for control is removed.

Removing expectation helps in letting go because as you do not have a specifically desired outcome you don’t need to control the elements to shape the action in a specific direction, instead you can move with the flow of the action to achieve a more harmonious interaction moment by moment.

Meditation, another tool to assist in learning to let go, as you sit in meditation thoughts come into your head and your goal is not to attach to these stray ideas and distractions. Recognise they are there but let them go as if they are clouds in the sky, they are there floating free.

They do not define what you will think or do or how you will react. They simply are.

The art of letting go gives a sense of freedom, it allows the quiet centre to be still and from this quiet you begin to hear the message from your heart centre.

Life is a balance of holding and letting go - Rumi
