The Art of Tea 16/04/2017

Writer's picture: Helen GaudinHelen Gaudin

It is a very clammy day; rain is a constant in our lives at this time. I started the day on a light note with White Peony tea, also known as Pai Mu Tan from TLeafT. A delicate white tea made up of long silvery withered leaves and feathery buds. A smooth taste, infused with a golden colour. I selected my White Magnolia cup and staying in the realm of lightness, had banana, yoghurt and nut butter pancakes.

Early in the week that was I had Serida off to the vet due to lumpy stomach, happily there was nothing seriously wrong with her except for having put on too much weight too soon. When she first came home she ate everything in sight and every dish would be cleaned out. I put that down to her having been a stray and then at the SPCA for several months and thought she would settle down once she realised food was available to her. She has settled down but unfortunately is now carrying too much weight for her frame. Will be moving them all over to a Satiety diet, specifically measured out to each cat’s weight and reducing down to the weight they should be.

I am doing well with my exercise programme and noticing changes. We have a Staircase challenge over next six weeks to go up and down listed stairs around the town and count the stairs and time ourselves. So I will start with stair from back beach up by Paritutu and the stairs up to the Paritutu climb. It will be interesting finding these stairs all over town.

The Pukeko flock came back for a visit on Good Friday the seven that left once I stopped feeding them. The one I called little brown was there as well and it is still brown. It has not gained the dark blue colouration as DOC said it would when it grew up. I didn’t manage to get a photo unfortunately.

I had a lovely birthday yesterday, a relaxing day, time spent with friends and the cats and reading. It was exactly the day I wanted. I finished my painting of Franz Marc’s “Two Cats” and I am very pleased with it. I have lots of other painting that I want to do. I am doing another term at the class to keep building my knowledge of managing colours and techniques. In June we have to submit one of our paintings for the Arts Trail Exhibition.

The sun has decided to shine so I will make an attempt to do something in the garden today.

Blessing on this Easter Sunday to you all and my the brightness of life fill your soul with joy.
