The Art of Tea 12/11/2017

Writer's picture: Helen GaudinHelen Gaudin

The sun today is flirting, playing peek-a-boo between the clouds and the wind is singing a low counterpoint the harmony of the day. Summer is widening the door to enter the stage. So today to subtly reinforce summers entry I chose my tea cup “Grace” featuring blue sky, pink roses and butterflies. In recognition of spring’s receding presence I paired the cup with White Peony Tea from TLeafT a light, bright and delicate tea that glows a pale gold in the cup.

My garden is burgeoning the Iceberg rose is smothered in blooms a bounty of white flowers. The colour is added with the striking pink and white training geranium and brilliant scarlet and the pink flower carpet to smothered in buds just waiting to burst forth. Then there have been the strong purples and delicate mauves of the bearded iris’. Behind it all is the fresh summer green of new growth. Beauty is all around me.

Yesterday we had a beautiful sunny day, now you would expect me to say I got into the garden; but no, instead I spring cleaned most of the house. Those that know me personally, know that I can be pretty lacksidasical about housework as there is always something more interesting to do. Yesterday I woke and cleaning was what I wanted to do; all my plants got a Seasol soak in the bathtub, crystals were rinsed under running water and put into the sun to recharge and I cleaned my bedroom, the lounge living area and toilet are now all sparkling. Still have to finish the kitchen, bathroom and the dumping ground of the spare room. Really please with what I got done yesterday. Today I need to get out and mow the front lawns.

I have had a really good week, actually a good two weeks since my break. I have been walking to work four days a week, two 25 minute walks each day and three workouts at Curves each week. I have been writing; Good thoughts, Haikus and Flash Fiction, I have been doing art in the black and white photos and photos of the cats, I want to do anther still life with cats featuring Serida, and I have been looking after my garden. A year ago I could only have managed one or two of those actions a week. What a difference a year makes.

Today I looked to Marcus Aurelius for words of wisdom.

“The first rule is to keep an untroubled spirit. The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

“Everything is only for a day, both that which remembers and that which is remembered. "Observe constantly that all things take place by change, and accustom thyself to consider that the nature of the universe loves nothing so much as to change things which are and to make new things like them. For everything that exists is in a manner the seed of that which will be.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Blessings to you all on this beautiful Sunday may all have and untroubled spirit and bee in the moment, each moment throughout the week.
