The Art of Tea 14/01/2018

Helen

It is another sunny Sunday. After a very hot night I woke up grumpy, tired and my shoulder hurt. I didn’t want to do anything but as needs must the chores have to be completed, so I pulled myself together to start with breaking my fast. I cooked my standard fare of mushrooms, kale, Hauloumi and eggs with Tokyo Lime tea. I chose the Tokyo Lime because I needed its bright sharpness to get through the wake up process needed today. In line with the tea’s brightness I chose my red Peony teacup to gain from the vibrancy of the red, white and gold colours. Just looking at the colours sparks off neurons in my brain. As hot as it already is I think today will be a slow, lazy day. I doubt I will get much done.

I started my January Goddess Papier Mache sculpture with the creation of a wire frame on Friday evening and then began layering the paper yesterday. She is around 34 cm tall and probably be slightly taller once I get all the paper layered on. A goddess each month created in a different medium is a really good project for me to take on I am working on January and already thinking about what I will do in February. Inspiring a sense of creativity and anticipation.

Also this week I will be receiving my new very special Geraniums; Apple Blossom Rosebud and Scarlet Rosebud. They such beautiful flowers I am really looking forward to having them in my garden. A few months ago I got really excited about managing to get the Cunningham Maidenhair Adiantum cunninghamii to grow in a pot after trying for 6 months. The plant is starting to look very lush, the fronds are around 9 cm and I have two plants growing in the pot in my bathroom. Even though I took the root stock from very dry spots in the garden to get them to grow I have had to keep the soil in the pot wet all of the time. A precious plant that makes me feel good just looking at it.

Thinking of the maidenhair and other plants I surround myself with I will share a poem I wrote in 2013 Fractals and Spirals

Fractals and spirals

Trap the eye and ensnare the mind

Taking us in and down

Descending

Following the internal DNA path

We travel the long journey

Down to our centre

Into the eternal space

The place between the stars

Blessing to you all. This week see if you can find the natural fractal and spirals the surround us everywhere and take a moment to allow yourself to stillness in the centre.

Today's art is from my Sisters Under The Skin Album; Mnemosyne, Memory & Rememberance
