The Art of Tea 21/01/2018

Helen

Today I am trying for a lightness of being as the weather is hot and heavy with humidity. The least exertion has me breaking out in sweat and it is only 9.30 am. To encourage this lightness of being I chose White Peony Tea, this tea is from the Da Bai (Large White) and Narcissus tea bushes. It is also known as Bai Mu Dan or Pai Mu Tan, which basically means “white peony” in Chinese. It is made from the new bud still covered in the silvery down and the next two leaves on the tea bush. This results in a beautiful light golden beverage best served in a white porcelain cup so that the light through the porcelain lights up the golden tea. Staying in the place of lightness I chose my white Magnolia Tea cup for its purity of design.

Today I am not sure what I am going to do, it is so muggy that I just want to collapse in front of a fan but as I have such a limited time to get garden work done i will have to go out and brave the heat to dig the Robinia suckers and seedlings out of the lawn and get the weeds out out the garden I have been maintaining since my holiday in October.

Aurora and Serida have finally managed to sort out their territorial relationship and now both of them will be laying around inside the house. Serida is still a little baggage and will push the boundaries then act all upset when Aurora responds and backs her down. I am pleased that Aurora has taken the dominant status as she is a sweet and gentle cat who doesn’t like upsets and I was concerned that she would end up at the bottom of the hierarchy. Khepra need some cuddles this week from me as he had been in a head on fight and a few battle wounds on his face and neck, they have cleared up and he is doing well but he always needs a bit of loving attention after he has guarded the property from intruders.

A couple of thoughts for the upcoming week

“Let me give you a wonderful Zen practice. Wake up in the morning...look in the mirror, and laugh at yourself.” ― Bernie Glassman, The Dude and the Zen Master

And

“The universe and the light of the stars come through me.” ― Jalaluddin Mevlana Rumi

Blessings to all. May your thoughts and feelings carry you lightly through the week to come.
