The Art of Tea 04/03/2018

Helen

I woke up early this morning around 7 am, I was still tired and I didn’t want to be awake but I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I got up and trimmed the street edge of the berm. The kikuyu grass had grown over the pavement quite a bit. The council had sprayed the area the was on the pavement so it was looking quite ugly and every day I walked home I could see the messiness. Now it is all straight and tidy.

I got to my usual brunch once I had finished and I chose today Sencha Green Rose tea , it is perfect to set up the rest of the day, served in my little sky blue Steiner cup. It is a moment out of time to sip quietly a brew of light, sweet tea; the sweetness coming from the rose and cornflower petals and tropical fruits. Well worth trying especially if you are new to tea drinking.

It is a while since I mowed the grass on the lower lawns when I went down there yesterday I noticed a whole bunch of mushrooms growing. I thought it was a foraging bonus until I checked up on them they were Death Cap Mushrooms; a number of people have died from eating them. So no home grown mushrooms, went down with my gloves on an picked them all and put them in the rubbish certainly don’t want them sporing and spreading in my lawns.

Autumn has entered our world but she is sharing time with Summer who is reluctant to leave. Leaves are falling from trees and summer flowers are looking a little tired ready for the change. I am looking forward to the new season with cooler nights, mornings and evenings. I really enjoy the changing of the seasons, Spring and Autumn being my favourite times, I like Summer and Winter except for one month in each season February usually our hottest month although this year it was January and in Winter August is usually our bleakest month. Overall I enjoy the changes in nature, in the sea and clouds and colours of the sky.

Today I am going to share again my poem Tea, Simply Complex

Tea, Simply Complex 07/08/2016

A slow and gentle awakening

As fragrant steam softy rises

Gently touching my face

In amber liquid endless reflections

Dreaming into the day

The first sip a benediction

Flavours burst across my tongue

Of long ago and far away

A world bounded by the china rim

Blessing to all, may your week be filled with simple beauties in the everyday things you touch and do.
