Today is the last day of my two weeks leave it is back to work tomorrow. I have so enjoyed my time here at home where time means nothing and I can start and do things when I feel like it, the only constraint being the weather. When weather stopped me from working outside I had loads of inside things to do and often just settled in and read. It is a bittersweet feeling contemplating returning to work tomorrow.
I broke my fast with sautéed garlic mushrooms and poached eggs to go with these earthy flavours I chose Ceylon Black tea flavoured with Pomegranate and mint. A beautiful mahogany colour and a deep, rich, sweet taste complimented by my black and jade teacup. A down to earth, grounding tea and breakfast a delight to all the senses: sight, smell, touch and taste and in hearing the silence of an Autumn Sunday morning.
One of my goals this holiday was to start my new gardens I am creating a bog garden down from the stream up to where the slope starts backing onto the bank of the Contemplation garden. I got my two Japanese Iris’ and my Louisana iris into the ground, pruned back the fuchsia and put in another stem to grow, will move my day down to that area. I am planning on getting 3 new Japanese iris’ “Ruri Ogi” deep blue and white, “Galatea” sky blue and “Fatima Go Aru” white with yellow spathes they can go in now and in spring some ligularias, candelabra primulas, rodgersia and astilbes. I also plan on getting a twisted willow. My hope is that this will help manage the flooding down in that area.
The second garden I am planning is from the Rhododendrons out in a half oval a range of shrubs Rhodos, azaleas, weigelas, aristae, Mexican orange blossom, francoa, fuchsia and a variety of other flowering plants. The idea being to take out the lower lawn completely leaving only a circular path through the gardens as a lot of it will be shrubs requiring pruning one a year hopefully much less work for me in mowing lawns.
Over my break I got to do tasks that had been on mey “to do” list for two to three years cleaning out the garage, cleaning out the basement and setting up my downstairs room with both art and gardening work areas, getting rid of a load of rubbish. Even with doing all that I had time for doing art work, reading and cooking; I have been so good at making proper meals for myself. It has been a really lovely time.
Serida has discovered the perfect bed, my drawers. With the storm the other night she hid behind the dressing table and in the morning I pulled out the bottom draw to get her to come out she spent yesterday sleeping on my winter woollies and back there today. Aurora has taken over the cupboard at the bottom of the wooden unit and has been sleeping in there all night for the last two nights. Khepra is still sleeping outside give it another month and he will start sleeping inside.
Contemplating time I am sharing the wisdom of Kahlil Gibran.
“The timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.”
“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.”
And finally but most importantly;
“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair”
Blessings to all, live fully in the moment it is all you have all else is a dream.
