The Art of Tea 16/09/2018

Helen

A grey overcast Spring Sunday. I broke my fast with wholemeal oat pancakes with homemade Guava Syrup and I used my beautiful new silver teapot. I chose a special and very delicately flavoured tea “Silver Tips” White tea and used my white “Parlour Lace” tea cup. All this combined together created a finely woven harmony and peace to begin my day.

The week that was, was long and very tiring. The whole week felt disjointed and dragged on and on seemingly never ending. Even though I have so much to do, I am doing nothing except the basic weekend chores and reading. I am doing a marathon of Connie Suttle’s ebooks I started with the 10 Blood Destiny books I am on the last of the 6 High Demon books, then I will head into the 5 books of the God Wars, followed by R-D 3 and the First Ordinance 5 and then the Black Wing Pirates 4 and following that another 10 books which integrate within all the others. This sort of marathon reading is a good way to let my mind rest.

After the new wall had been completed my iris’ had been trampled, I went in a couple of weekends ago an tidied and straightened them up and they are looking really good, the Japanese and Louisiana iris’ down by the stream are coming away so I am hoping for a good display of them around November/December. I was extremely happy yesterday to some new variety of Fuchsia which included “Blautopf” which is a beautiful blue and white; Gunter Rehle” a deep wine red and white and “Kemiremo” a beautiful delicate white with a blush of pink. These will all add wonderful colour and texture to the deep shady areas.

I have been participating in Steptember and in the first week I averaged 8605 steps, this week not counting today I have averaged 9892 that was with walking to and from work 4 days whereas the previous week I had only walked 3 days and had been unwell last Sunday. Daylight saving is next Sunday which will give me time after work to get outside for a little bit.

It is so very quiet today, aside from occasional car going past there is no human generated noise which is such a blessing, something I am extremely grateful for. In the quiet I feel myself expand out into my surroundings; I feel the smooth flow of blood through my heartbeat and it as if edges float outwards releasing the feeling of being confined in my skin. Quiet is such a wonderful gift.

My thoughts for today are on the beauty of silence.

“True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit. What sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.” – William Penn

“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature — trees, flowers, grass — grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls.” – Mother Teresa

and

“Everything that’s created comes out of silence. Thoughts emerge from the nothingness of silence. Words come out of the void. Your very essence emerged from emptiness. All creativity requires some stillness.” – Wayne Dyer

Sharing a poem I wrote on another Sunday when I merged with silence

Bringing Grace Into The Day 23/10/2016

Body waking to the bright morning

Quiet mind, thoughts stilled

From depths softness arises

The taste of earth, rich, deep and secret

Followed by a salty sweetness

And a sense of timelessness

Of traditions handed down

Bursting across the tongue; flavour

Of life lived in its fullness

Mind and soul in wreathed in gentle quietude

Light flows through porcelain

Infusing the tea in a golden glow

Wreathed in fragrant steam

The mind’s eye sees high mountain plantations

Glossy green leaves, quick hands

Young tips plucked as they being to unfurl

Tenderness in the leaf

The delicate flavour floats softly

Into mind body and soul

Bringing grace into the day

Blessing to all, may the gift of silence wrap you in its gentle hold.
