I decided to surprise Mum today. When she arrived home from work, I greeted her outside. She was astonished. It made me happy. Then I made her wait in the front doorway until I came in. Khepra did get in ahead of me, which is why I rushed past him when I got in the door, so I got into the lounge and onto the chair arm first.
Dinner was a pleasure—roast chicken. In the past, this has been a special treat. I could get used to this weight reduction idea, especially as Mum bagged up the rest of the chicken for other nights. After dinner, I decided to go outside again; Mum can’t say I never go outside now. When it had gotten dark and rained, Mum opened the back door to see where I was, so I came back inside to give her the pleasure of my company.
Mum had smelly bread for dinner. I indicated that maybe I could have some; it had an interesting smell. Mum wouldn’t give me any. I kept my eyes on the bread as it moved from plate to mouth, hoping I could get a stray drop, but Mum ate it all even as I stared purposefully at her.
She said my eyes were like black holes into which she could fall. That doesn’t sound very comfortable. So I squinted with one eye, then the other. No, I don’t think I will let her do that. I have been busy today, being outside and all. It is time for me to have a rest on my favourite cushion. You got it. Mum.
