The Art of Tea

Writer's picture: Helen GaudinHelen Gaudin

A late start today, I woke up with a really bad headache, so medicated myself and went back and lay down on the bed for a while. With the defense of pain relief the headache has retreated and is now it is sitting behind my eyes just waiting for an opportunity to attack again. So I am looking a slow and quiet day today.

Along with my Sencha Green, in response to my general mood, I chose my favourite Jade and Black handleless cup. It is a little set I picked up at Trade Aid years ago and every time I use it I get pleasure from the beautiful simplicity of the shape, colour and texture. All these aspect along with the clean, brightness of the Sencha Green tea brings a highlight to the beginning of my day.

The sun is shining but due to all the rain over the last week the ground is still wet which does not generate any enthusiasm in getting into the garden. I still have some pruning of the Salvias and rose to do and a few things need to be planted, lawn and edges need to be done and ongoing general garden maintenance. I will try later this afternoon to get out and get at least one garden chore done.

I have started working on papier mache sculptures for Christmas presents, so heads up to family and friends that is what you will be getting “Handmade by Helen” for Christmas. I finally got my sitting goddess completed and she sits among the plants in the lounge. I can’t show you what she looks like as I need to get a new memory card for my camera. She is of the earth, painted with a rose gold base with mottled black, green and gold, I love her, she overlook my lounge looking directly at anyone sitting in my chairs.

This is a poem I wrote to The Goddess back in 2015

Earth Song

Our Mother sings an earth song

She sings into being the web of life

The sound of her song spirals down into our souls

Her music winds itself around each beating heart

In the sparkle of the sun on the sea; you will hear her

In the whisper of the wind in the trees; you will hear her

In the movement of the bones of the earth; you will hear her

In the fire’s laughter; you will hear her

In the depth of the night; you will hear her

In your soul

You hear her

And when you hear her; will you answer?

Will you dive into the web of life and offer up your heart? Staying in the theme of general and abstract feelings sharing the everlasting truths in the beautiful words of the poet Rumi.

“There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled. There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled. You feel it, don't you?” Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi

And

“This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor... Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi

Blessings for the coming week; be gentle to yourself you are but a mortal child of the earth experiencing a myriad of ways of being who you are, see who you are each day as it changes and love these changes that are all aspects of you.
