“We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude.” ― Thomas S. Monson
Smells or scents can instantly call up memories. We all have moments when a smell takes us back to a pleasant or unpleasant memory. I have a very poor sense of smell and often I am very grateful for that when others complain of unpleasant smells. But I do take joy in those smells I can experience.
The scent from my Iceberg rose was most powerful in the buds that bloomed as winter came on, it was as if all the scent had distilled into those final blooms.
The soft scent of tea is another smell I enjoy, wrapped in the misty tendrils of heat from the cup, drifting up my nose as I take a sip.
The ozone smell that permeates the air before a storm wraps around me and brings a hint of wildness into my day.
The soft smell of water on a hot summer’s day reaches out and draws in towards it benediction.
I give thanks for these smells that remind me of the passages of time when my life becomes distilled to an almost perfect moment.
This quote reflects the essence of smell for me
“The fragrance of white tea is the feeling of existing in the mists that float over waters; the scent of peony is the scent of the absence of negativity: a lack of confusion, doubt, and darkness; to smell a rose is to teach your soul to skip; a nut and a wood together is a walk over fallen Autumn leaves; the touch of jasmine is a night's dream under the nomad's moon.” ― C.
