The root of joy is gratefulness

Those who know me probably get a little tired of hearing about Pukeko. But when I think of something that makes me laugh Pukeko immediately comes to mind, the family now numbering 8 can be a nuisance, a definite annoyance when they pull out my plants, but under it all they bring laughter to me.
They are not pets, they are wild birds and they are very aware of me, even when I am inside the house, they are very wary. This characteristic is what I laugh at. As they race off down the garden with their ungainly feet and white tail feathers flashing, only to stop once I am far enough away to check that I am going to feed them. Recently a couple of them would start to run up with the chickens, then realise that they shouldn’t be running towards me so they end up running away, then it dawns on them that I have the food so they start running back to the acceptable distance that they have established.
With all this backwards and forwards, indecisive running around I laugh, which again causes the to startle and run a little way off and then come back. Even writing about this makes me smile.

If all you did was look for things to appreciate, you would live a joyous, spectacular life – Abraham Hicks
